How to get started with Clean questions

The simple answer to this question is just start asking Clean questions. As with all the examples given above, ask simple questions when an opportunity presents itself and continue for as long as it feels comfortable to do so. There is no need to stop and explain to the coachee what you are doing. Some beginners with Clean find it difficult to take the ‘plunge’ into Clean, fearing they may get it wrong or the coachee may not understand them or find the questions strange. But it doesn’t have to be a ‘plunge’ at all, you can just dip your toe in and see how it goes. You can start with the two most basic questions to clarify, in a natural, conversational way and see where it leads you. Similarly, if you notice your coachee spontaneously use a metaphor to describe an experience, take that as an opportunity to learn something new about this coachee, through exploring that metaphor for five minutes or so. Chapter eleven covers more formal ways to begin a Clean Coaching session, but meanwhile getting used to asking Clean Language questions is an excellent first step.
